On February 17th, US President Barack Obama signed the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act .
(ARRA). The Recovery Act has designated 7.22 billion USD for projects and programs that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is overseeing. More than 80% of that funding will go to Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Funds (SRF).
The Act specifies that “to the extent there are sufficient eligible project applications, not less than 20% of the funds provided for projects must be used for water or energy efficiency, green infrastructure, or other environmentally innovative activities…projects that demonstrate new/and or innovative approaches to managing water resources in a more sustainable way…”
