*De-icing is a function of temperature. Typically, in ponds greater than 1000 gals with a depth of at least 3-5 ft, as long as the air temperature stays above O degrees F we will keep a small hole open in the ice all winter.

First, the diffuser is to be placed as far away from the effluent or discharge/overflow of the pond as possible.
Second, the diffuser is to be placed as shallow as possible (3 foot depth is best) to maximize airflow and minimize power consumption. This gives you the maximum oxygen transfer available for every solar powered unit.
