Installing a floating  U-tube air lift aerator costs less and
uses less energy than placing an air diffuser on the bottom
of your pond or floating a fountain spray on top of the pond.
Air Lift Reactors (ALRs) are well documented. Our 4" solar
powered draft tubes can turn 5 lpm of  fine bubble aeration
into 50 lpm of top to bottom pond destratification mixing.  
All while providing a zero carbon footprint and twice the
oxygen transfer efficiency, at
a fraction of the cost of
maintenance of high pressure grid powered bubblers or
high speed mechanical aerators.

Bottom mounted air diffusers are undesireable
from every standpoint because they make:
   
HIGH ENERGY USE:  Every foot of diffuser depth  or
fountain spray height  increases the cost of the aerator
operation.  Draft tubes can use less than 10% of the energy
while supplying the same oxygen transfer and mixing as
fountains or bottom mounted diffusers.

MAINTENANCE A NIGHTMARE:  Every foot of depth
doubles the  pump mechanical stress and  maintenance
costs. (ask them about the pump warranty!)

MUCK & BOTTOM SLUDGE REDUCTION: Fixed
position bottom mounted diffusers have limited use for pond
solids reduction.  Bottom mounted solids mixing "zone of
influence" is tiny compared to PEC floating draft tube
technology.  In comparison our  PEC DT  solids mixing
"zone of influence" can be than 1000 times greater than
any fixed position bottom diffuser.   The  PEC DT forced
discharge vertical flow drives the unit throughout the
anchored zone.  When desired, the PEC DT inlet can be
extended into the bottom solids or sludge zone. In this
manner, solids are constantly recirculated and distributed
throughout the anchored zone of influence.  This enhances
the aerobic solids reduction process similar to the
"activated sludge" process and reduces the sludge volume
in your pond or lagoon more than 10 times faster than the
anaerobic solids digestion process alone.
Instructions for assembling your own
floating airlift aerator draft tube (PEC DT)
from standard PVC parts from any hardware
store are shown below.
Attach float to  tube
support metal clips.
Screw float top
locking cap tight.
Expand draft tube to
desired depth or bend
tube to protect from
bottom mud.  Standard
depth is 6 ft.  Deeper
ponds require
addtional tubes to any
depth.
Place unit in pond and
secure with rope tied
to float tube metal
hasp and bottom
anchor chain.

Aerator Efficiency studies are mute when  
you consider solar  power is
FREE
Almost all of the oxygen dissolved into  
water from an air bubble occurs when the
bubble is being formed. Only a negligible
amount occurs during the bubbles transit to
the surface of the water.

If you put that rising bubble in a tube, it
transfers its oxygen to the water and then  
moves the water above it out the top of the
tube. As the oxygen rich  water moves out
the top of the tube,  stagnant  water flows in
from the bottom of the tube.
This is an ancient and common method of
pumping water that we call an  airlift aerator.
You can  make the tube 5, 10, or 20 feet long
to reach the bottom of deep  ponds,  and it
still aerates and mproves water circulation
without requiring any additional energy.
Certainly an "ah-ha" moment... isn't it?
Air is pumped deep inside a downward
hanging tube,  the air mixes with the water
making it lighter and lifting it to the top of
the tube.  The upward flowing air then
forces it vertically out annular openings
near the top of the tube.
