PEC Draft Tube Deep Water Aeration

Installing an air stone in your pond that sits on the bottom is undesireable from an energy standpoint. You would need an air pump that is strong enough to overcome the pressure made by the depth of the pond. That pump is a very noisy system that requires a lot of power (this means a lot of electricity and 5-25, 100 watt solar panels). Draft tube technology is no secret.  By floating a 4" expandable pipe and placing air bubbles 0.5-1.0 ft inside it, you can aerate at any pond depth.  In this manner you only need an air pump capable of  0.8 psi pressure no matter how deep your water is. All other systems require 1 Psi per 2.31ft of water depth. Instructions for building your own floating draft tube from standard PVC parts available at any hardware store are shown below.

Attach air tube to draft tube float bayonet.

Place air tube inside draft tube.

Screw top locking cap tight.

Expand draft tube to desired depth.   Standard depth is 6 ft.  Deeper ponds require addtional tubes.

Insert leaf strainer  into draft tube.  Place unit in pond and secure with nylon rope to bottom mounted weight (not included).
